Dr. Barb Wilmot has been an educator for more than thirty
years as a teacher of elementary, junior high, high school,
and college students. As an experienced educational
consultant, Barb has worked with dozens of districts and
presented over 1,000 in-service sessions in more than 30
states.
Barb's presentations have been in the areas of authentic
assessment, performance-based assessment, problem solving,
technology, communicating in the classroom, making
connections, promoting reasoning, geometry, probability,
statistics, meaningful computation, using manipulative
learning aids, number sense, parental involvement, and
designing continuity in the K-12 curriculum.
Barb has presented at state and national meetings of the
National Science Teachers Association, and the National
Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and has been
featured as a general session speaker. In 1994, Barb received
the Lola J. May Leadership Award.
As an author, Barb's most recent book is Transforming
Traditional Tasks for Today's Classroom. In addition she
contributed a chapter to the 1989 NCTM yearbook and a chapter
in the 5-8 probability and statistics addenda series of the
NCTM Standards. She has also authored seven other
books, four video tapes, two activity packets and numerous
articles and reviews.
As an educational consultant and frequent visitor to
schools, Barb understands the demands placed on teachers and
the nature of our educational climate. She is able to deliver
classroom-tested strategies for meeting teacher and student
needs.
