Nancy Powell, a teacher with over 20 years of classroom
experience, is a nationally recognized speaker having
conducted numerous workshops and seminars throughout the
United States. Nancy is currently a classroom teacher and Lead
Teacher of Mathematics. She has several years of experience
working in the University of Illinois' Mathematics Department
with pre-service teachers. She believes that Do-It-Math
is the best motivator for student learning.
Nancy received the 1992 Presidential Award for Excellence
in Mathematics Teaching at the national level and was given a
Pioneering Partner Award for a cross-curriculum, multi-age,
math-based project. She has been a finalist for the Illinois
Teacher of the Year, Technology & Learning
magazine's Regional Teacher of the Year, and has been
named a Tandy Technology Scholar. She has presented at many
National Council of Teachers of Mathematics regional and
national conferences, as well as many state mathematics and
technology conferences. She has been an Internet Web Mentor
for teachers and students on several educational websites
since 1992.
Nancy co-authored The Teachers Guide to Cyberspace
and the award-winning article Reflections on Miniature
Golf (Mathematics Teacher - October, 1994). Her
newest venture is a CD
of Geometry Projects that gets students actively involved
in geometry. She has won awards and written numerous articles
and grants for integrating mathematics with technology,
science, and other subjects. Her Do-It math projects
with real-life applications and her ability to communicate
how-to strategies are products of her personal
classroom experience.
